Slido Review 2026: Does It Work for Trivia or Only for Q&A?

By James Green · Updated October 5, 2026 · 10 min read

Pinned answer

Slido can run a quiz, and it does a clean job of it: multiple-choice questions, a timer, speed-based scoring, and a live leaderboard. It's excellent for quick knowledge checks, conference warm-ups, and adding a fun competitive break to a presentation.

But it isn't built for a full trivia night. There's no team mode, every question is multiple choice, the on-screen leaderboard shows only the top five, and quizzes can't run on their own. Slido's real strength is still what made it famous: live Q&A and polls.

How we reviewed: This review is based on Slido's official feature pages, its Help Center articles on quizzes and leaderboards, answers from Slido staff in its community forum, and published pricing information, all checked in October 2026. Prices and limits can change, so confirm on Slido's site before buying.

What is Slido, really?

Slido is an audience interaction tool for meetings, classes, webinars, and conferences. Participants join from their phone or laptop browser using an event code or QR code, then ask questions, vote in polls, or play quizzes in real time while the host displays results on screen.

Slido is owned by Cisco and is now part of Webex, Cisco's video meeting platform. Its core features include:

  • Live Q&A, where the audience submits questions and upvotes the ones they want answered.
  • Live polls, including multiple choice, word clouds, ratings, open text, and ranking.
  • Quizzes with a leaderboard.
  • Surveys and Ideas for collecting feedback and brainstorming.
  • Analytics and exports to review participation afterward.

That lineup tells you a lot. Quizzes are one feature among many, not the center of the product. Keep that in mind as we look at whether Slido can stretch into trivia territory.

How does a Slido quiz actually work?

Illustration of a typical quiz question layout, not a screenshot.

According to Slido's own Help Center guide, building a quiz is simple: add a new interaction, choose Quiz, type each question with its answer options, and mark the correct one. A few details matter for trivia hosts:

  • All quiz questions are multiple choice.
  • You can mark more than one correct answer, but players must pick all of them to score.
  • Each question defaults to a 20-second timer, which you can change or remove.
  • There's a random question button if you need a quick filler.
  • Quizzes allow up to 100 questions, though Slido recommends 30 or fewer.

Running it live

When you start the quiz, anyone already in your slido is prompted to enter a name. You then move through questions from Host mode: lock voting, reveal the answer, and go to the next one. With a timer on, voting locks automatically when time runs out.

Scoring and the leaderboard

Players are ranked by how many questions they answer correctly and how quickly they answer. A leaderboard appears automatically after the last question, and you can also show it after any question for a mid-game standings update. The on-screen leaderboard displays the top five players, while each participant sees their own position on their device. On paid plans, you can export the full leaderboard.

Slido also offers an AI Quiz feature inside its PowerPoint and Google Slides integrations, which can help draft questions from your presentation content. As always, double-check any AI-generated answers before you present them.

Can it run a real trivia night?

For a short, casual round, yes. For a proper multi-round trivia night with teams, no, and Slido says as much in its own documentation. Here's how its quiz compares with what dedicated trivia platforms typically offer, using Crowdpurr as an example:

Three limits stand out:

No teams

Slido's guide states plainly that quizzes don't support competing as a team. Everyone plays individually. The suggested workaround is to have each team answer from one shared device, which works but loses the fun of seeing team names on the board.

Live, host-controlled only

Each question must be started by the host during the session. Slido notes that quizzes can't be run asynchronously before or after an event, so there's no "play anytime" option for remote groups.

One running total

The leaderboard is cumulative across the whole quiz. A Slido staff member explained in the community forum that if you want separate standings, the workaround on paid plans is to create several separate quizzes. That's manageable for a few rounds but clunky for a long night.

Where Slido trivia shinesA 5 to 10 question quiz at the end of a training session, a quick ice-breaker at a conference, or a fun competitive break in a town hall, especially when the questions live right inside your slides.

Why do so many events use its Q&A?

If quizzes are Slido's side dish, Q&A is the main course. Attendees type questions from their seats, others upvote the most important ones, and the host sees a ranked list instead of whoever grabs the microphone first. Quieter people can ask without standing up, and hosts can choose to allow anonymous questions.

Higher paid plans add moderation, so a team member can review questions before they appear publicly. For an all-hands meeting, a panel discussion, or a big conference keynote, this is where Slido is hard to beat, and it's the reason the tool is so widely recognized in corporate events.

Live polls round out the experience. Word clouds, rating scales, and quick multiple-choice polls are fast to create and look clean on screen, which makes Slido a strong choice for presentations that need audience input rather than competition.

Does it work with my slides and meeting apps?

This is one of Slido's biggest advantages. According to its integrations page, it connects with:

  • PowerPoint and Google Slides, so polls and quiz questions sit directly inside your deck.
  • Webex, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom, so remote participants can join within the meeting.
  • Live video setups and website embeds.

For a trainer who already presents from PowerPoint, this is huge. You can scatter quiz questions through your slides and run them as you present, without switching apps. Dedicated trivia platforms usually need their own presentation screen instead.

One integration quirk to testIn a Slido community answer, a staff member noted that the quiz leaderboard couldn't be displayed directly within the Webex integration, suggesting hosts control the quiz from a second device. If you plan to quiz inside a meeting app, run a full rehearsal first.

What do you get for free, and what costs extra?

Slido's free Basic plan is genuinely usable, especially if you mostly need Q&A. Here's what it includes per event:

∞
Q&A questions
100
Participants
3
Polls
1
Quiz

For trivia, that single quiz per event is the key limit. It's fine for one warm-up round but won't cover a multi-round game.

Paid plans follow a tiered structure. Slido sells them as annual subscriptions or as one-time plans for a single event, along with discounted education plans. Based on Slido's published plan structure as reported by pricing trackers in 2026:

EngageUnlimited polls and quizzes, higher participant limit (around 200), and data exports.
ProfessionalAround 1,000 participants, plus Q&A moderation, branding, and deeper analytics.
EnterpriseAround 5,000 participants, single sign-on, and advanced admin and security controls.
EducationDiscounted versions of the paid plans for teachers and schools.

Exact prices vary by region and change over time, and third-party trackers list different figures, so check the official Slido pricing page for current costs in your currency. One thing to know: paid plans are typically billed annually or per event, rather than month to month.

So who should use Slido for quizzes?

How well does Slido fit each use?

Training knowledge checksVery good
Quick ice-breaker quizGood
Full team trivia nightPoor fit

Slido answers its own question honestly: it works for trivia, but only light trivia. If your goal is to break up a presentation, check what people learned in training, or add a competitive moment to a big meeting, its quiz feature is clean, quick, and conveniently built into the tools you already present with.

If you're planning a real trivia night with teams, multiple rounds, picture or typed-answer questions, and dramatic final-round twists, a dedicated platform such as Crowdpurr or Kahoot! is the better choice. And if your event is mostly about letting an audience ask questions, Slido may be the best tool in the room.

Quick-fire FAQ

Is Slido free to use?

Yes. The Basic plan is free and includes unlimited Q&A, three polls, and one quiz per event for up to 100 participants. Paid plans unlock unlimited polls and quizzes, larger audiences, and exports.

Do participants need to download an app?

No. Participants join from a browser using the event code or QR code, or directly inside supported meeting apps.

Can Slido quizzes have teams?

Not officially. Slido quizzes are individual only. As a workaround, each team can answer from a single shared device.

How does Slido score quiz answers?

Players are ranked by the number of correct answers and how quickly they respond, so fast and accurate players rise to the top.

Can I run a Slido quiz for people to take on their own time?

No. Slido quizzes are run live by the host, question by question, during the session.

Is Slido better than Kahoot! for trivia?

For classic quiz games, Kahoot! is more game-focused, while Slido's strengths are Q&A, polls, and slide integrations. For team-based trivia nights, dedicated trivia platforms offer more formats than either tool's simplest options.
